Etymology: modern Latin, < Greek ἔκδυσις, < ἐκδύειν to put off.
The action of stripping or casting off, esp. of slough or dead skin in serpents and caterpillars, or of the chitinous integument in Crustacea. Also concrete that which is cast off, slough.
