With plural agreement: a small phylum of unsegmented marine invertebrates comprising the spoonworms, which are characterized by a sausage-shaped body with two or more hooked chaetae and a mobile, non-retractile ribbon-like proboscis. Also: animals of this phylum (collectively or individually); spoonworms.Formerly called Echiuroidea or Echiurida, and once regarded as an order of gephyrean worms, the echiura are now sometimes placed as a class of the phylum Annelida.
