Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ēlectrinus.
Etymology: < classical Latin ēlectrinus made of the alloy of silver and gold called electrum (2nd cent. a.d.), made of amber (1605 in a British source) < Hellenistic Greek ἠλέκτρινος made of amber, made of electrum < ancient Greek ἠλέκτρον electrum n. + -ινος -ine suffix2.
Obsolete.
1. Resembling or characteristic of amber, esp. in relation to its ability to develop static electricity (cf. electric adj. 1a).
