Etymology: < electro- comb. form + -cute (in execute v.). Compare electrocution n.In form electricute perhaps after electric adj. The formation shown by this word (and also electrocution n.) was sometimes criticized on both semantic and formal grounds in the early 20th cent.: see e.g. H. W. Fowler Mod. Eng. Usage (1926) at electrocute, -cution.
