Etymology: Apparently < post-classical Latin alopecus person who has lost hair through disease of the scalp (from 1538 or earlier in Latin-English dictionaries; earlier (1525 or earlier) denoting the condition; < classical Latin alōpecia alopecia n.) + -ic suffix (after e.g. epileptic n., melancholic n., etc.). Compare earlier alopecia n.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
