Designating an approach to a particular field of enquiry which states that certain terms and concepts used within that field fail to describe or refer to real phenomena, and hence should be eliminated; spec. (esp. in eliminative materialism) designating an extreme form of materialism which denies the existence of some or all types of mental state. Also: of, relating to, or advocating such an approach.
