Etymology: < ancient Greek ἐμπυρευματ-, ἐμπύρευμα empyreuma n. + -ize suffix. Compare French empyreumatiser (1798 or earlier). Compare earlier empyreumatic adj., empyreumatical adj. N.E.D. (1891) gives the pronunciation as (empirū·mătəiz) /ɛmpɪˈruːmətaɪz/.
Obsolete.
transitive. To contaminate with or convert into empyreuma (empyreuma n. 1).
