Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: a- prefix6, methodical adj.
Etymology: < a- prefix6 + methodical adj. Compare earlier amethodically adv., and also earlier amethodist n.Apparently independently re-formed in the 20th cent.
Lacking or without method; unmethodical. Also: (in early use, with reference to medical treatment) †not in accordance with the doctrines and practice of the Methodist school of physicians (see methodist n. 2a and cf. methodical adj. 2) (obsolete).
