Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a German lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a Dutch lexical item. Etymons: ametropia n., -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ametropia n. + -ic suffix, probably after German ametropisch (1860) or its model Dutch ametropisch ( F. C. Donders Ametropie (1860) 63).The source cited in quot. 1864 is translated from an unpublished Dutch manuscript by Donders.

Affected by ametropia; of, relating to, or of the nature of ametropia.Contrasted with emmetropic adj. Cf. also hypermetropic adj.
