单词 enlist
释义

enlistv.

Brit. /ᵻnˈlɪst/, /ɛnˈlɪst/, U.S. /ᵻnˈlɪst/, /ɛnˈlɪst/
Forms: Also 1600s–1700s inlist.
Etymology: < en- prefix1 + list v.4If < list n.6, possibly suggested by Dutch inlijsten to inscribe on a list or register. So far as our quots. show, the verb list (now usually written 'list as if aphetic) occurs considerably earlier than enlist, and may possibly be its source. The form inlist, now wholly disused, was in 18th cent. much the more frequent.
