单词 epicondylitis
释义

epicondylitisn.

Brit. /ˌɛpᵻkɒndᵻˈlʌɪtᵻs/, U.S. /ˌɛpəˌkɑndəˈlaɪdəs/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; partly modelled on a German lexical item, and partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: epicondyle n., -itis suffix.
Etymology: < epicondyle n. + -itis suffix, after German Epicondylitis (1910) and its etymon scientific Latin epicondylitis (1908 or earlier in a German source, in epicondylitis humeri). Compare French épicondylite (1909).
Medicine.
Inflammation of an epicondyle of the humerus or of the tendons attached to it. lateral epicondylitis, affecting the tendons of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, was first identified in tennis players, and is often called tennis elbow. medial epicondylitis, affecting the tendons of the medial epicondyle, is sometimes called golfer's elbow. Both are now thought to be degenerative rather than inflammatory in origin.
