Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French entronizer, Middle French enthroniser, introniser, intronizer, inthronizer (French inthroniser , (now usually) introniser ) to seat (a person) on a throne, especially as part of a formal or ceremonial induction to office (13th cent. in Old French), to seat (a person or thing) on a notional or metaphorical throne (late 13th cent., earliest with reference to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary), and its etymon (ii) post-classical Latin inthronizare, intronizare (also enthronizare) to enthrone (a bishop) (5th cent.; frequently from 11th cent. in British sources), to enthrone (a ruler) (from 11th cent. in British sources) < Hellenistic Greek ἐνθρονίζειν to place on a throne < ancient Greek ἐν- en- prefix2 + θρόνος throne n. + -ίζειν -ize suffix.Compare Spanish entronizar , Portuguese entronizar (both early 16th cent.), Italian intronizzare (late 14th cent.). With the form enthronishe compare -ish suffix2.
