1912 A. Irving Let. 20 Dec. in F. Spencer Piltdown Papers 1908–1955 (1990) 44 Do you—admitting Werth's conclusions as to H. heidelbergensis—take the Mindel-Riss Interglacial period for the time of the Eoanthropus?
1913 A. S. Woodward in Q. Jrnl. Geol. Soc. 69 135 The facial parts of the skull..differed..from those of any typically human skull. I therefore propose that the Piltdown specimen be regarded as the type of a new genus of the family Hominidæ, to be named Eoanthropus.

1997 N.Y. Rev. Bks. 6 Feb. 23/1 The fake..was not in fact a half-million-year-old human ancestor, Eoanthropus , ‘dawn man’, but a crude amalgam of a medieval human brain case with an orangutan jaw of the same age.
