Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin annuere , -ate suffix3.
Etymology: Irregularly < classical Latin annuere, adnuere to make signs, usually with the head, to nod, to nod assent or agreement (to) ( < ad- ad- prefix + nuere to nod: see numen n.) + -ate suffix3.Compare Middle French annueir to consent to, accept (1418), annuer to give one's approbation (1596).
Obsolete. rare.
