Etymology: < evolutionist n. + -ic suffix, perhaps after German evolutionistisch (1876). Compare Dutch evolutionistisch (1883 or earlier), Swedish evolutionistisk (1890), Italian evoluzionistico (1885), all in sense 1. Compare slightly earlier evolutionist adj.
1. Characterized by evolutionism; in accordance with a scientific or (more commonly) a philosophical theory or doctrine of evolution.
