Etymology: < classical Latin exsilient-, exsiliēns (also exilient-, exiliēns), present participle of exsilīre, exilīre to spring forth, leap up, jump out, to spring up < ex- ex- prefix1 + salīre to leap (see salient adj.). Compare earlier exilience n., exiliency n.Both exsilīre and exilīre are widely attested in Latin manuscripts; the form exilire is found in 5th-cent. inscriptions.
Obsolete.
