Origin: A borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: French eventer , -ing suffix1; event v.1, -ing suffix1.
Etymology: Originally < Middle French eventer, French éventer (see event v.1) + -ing suffix1. Compare earlier aventing n. at avent v. Derivatives and later event v.1 In later use probably re-formed < event v.1 + -ing suffix1.
Obsolete.
The action of being discharged through an outlet; venting. Cf. event v.1

Etymology: < event n. (compare event n. 13b) + -ing suffix1. Compare slightly later eventer n. and later event v.3
Equestrianism.
An equestrian sport in which riders compete in the disciplines of cross-country, dressage, and showjumping. Cf. event n. 13b.Eventing competitions either take place over one day ( one-day eventing) or over three (or four) consecutive days ( three-day eventing).
