单词 factitate
释义

factitatev.

Origin: Apparently a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin factitāt-, factitāre.
Etymology: Apparently < classical Latin factitāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of factitāre to do frequently or habitually, make a habit of, frequentative formation < facere to do, make (see fact n.).
Obsolete. rare.
intransitive. Apparently: to plan, plot. N.E.D. (1894) gave only quot. 16161, for which it suggested ‘? To work busily’. T. Austin, in the glossary to F. J. Furnivall's edition of Contin. Squire's Tale, cited in the quots., classed the verb as transitive, and glossed it ‘plan, contrive’. Together the two uses seem more to support the latter interpretation, but with an intransitive sense in both quots., ‘factitate’ in quot. 16162 paralleling ‘machinate’.
