Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: factor n., -ize suffix.
Etymology: < factor n. + -ize suffix. Compare earlier factorizing n., and (with the uses in mathematics) earlier factor v.
1. transitive. U.S. Law. In Connecticut and Vermont: to serve notice on (a third party) for the purpose of legally seizing money belonging to a debtor or defendant; to seek to seize (money) in this way. Cf. factor n. 3c, garnish v. 9. Now rare.
