faleadj.

Origin: Probably a borrowing from early Scandinavian.
Etymology: Probably < early Scandinavian (compare Old Icelandic falr , Norwegian (Nynorsk) fal , Old Swedish fal (Swedish fal , now chiefly regional), Old Danish fal (Danish fal , now chiefly regional), all in the sense ‘that is to be sold, available for purchase’) < an ablaut variant (o -grade) of the Germanic base of fele adj.1The semantic development is likely to have been via a figurative use of the kind seen in the following Old Icelandic phrase: er mér eru falastir til þungs hlutar ‘I would not be in the least concerned if things went against them’, literally ‘their ill fortunes would be very cheap to me’ ( Ljósvetninga saga).
Obsolete.
