Etymology: < fast adv. + breaking n. Compare slightly earlier fast-breaking adj.2 2 and slightly later fast break n. 2.
Sport (esp. Rugby and Basketball).
The use of an offensive manoeuvre in which one team takes possession of the ball and then swiftly advances towards their basket, goal, etc., with the aim of disrupting the defensive manoeuvres of the other team. Only as a modifier, with the sense ‘of or relating to such attacks’. Compare fast break n. 2.
