Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin anhelosus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin anhelosus asthmatic (5th cent.) < classical Latin anhēlus panting (see anhelous adj.) + -ōsus -ose suffix1. Compare earlier anhelous adj., and also earlier anhele v., anhelation n.
Now rare.
Characterized by or exhibiting laboured breathing or shortness of breath; (of breathing) characterized by gasping or panting; = anhelous adj.
