单词 | anomalous dispersion |
释义 | > as lemmasanomalous dispersion anomalous dispersion n. Physics dispersion of light in which the order of the refracted or scattered wavelengths is reversed when compared with normal dispersion by a transparent medium. In anomalous dispersion shorter wavelengths (e.g. blue) are refracted less than longer wavelengths (e.g. red). This phenomenon occurs when the incident frequency range of the light coincides with a strong absorption band of the material (chiefly in opaque materials). [After German anomale Dispersion (O. E. Meyer 1872, in the article translated in quot. 1872).] ΚΠ 1872 London, Edinb., & Dublin Philos. Mag. 4th Ser. 43 296 Anomalous dispersion of light appears to occur only in those bodies which very strongly absorb light so as to be almost opaque. 1904 J. Walker Analyt. Theory Light xvii. 337 There is an intimate connection between anomalous dispersion and the absorptive power of a substance. 2006 G. Rhodes Crystallogr. made Crystal Clear (ed. 3) vi. 134 The molecule under study contains one or more atoms that give anomalous dispersion. < as lemmas |
