A genus of small, lightly built, saurischian dinosaurs of the early Jurassic; (also anchisaurus) a dinosaur of this genus.Formerly regarded as a prosauropod, but now considered to be a basal sauropodomorph. ΚΠ 1885 O. C. Marsh in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. 129 169 The name Amphisaurus, given by the writer to a genus of Triassic reptiles, proves to be pre-occupied, and may be replaced by Anchisaurus. 1933 A. S.
