Etymology: Of obscure formation; the original sense is perhaps ‘filly’ (compare Welsh ffilawg filly, wanton girl, in Salesbury 1547 filoc , which may be an early adoption < English). The word may be < fill- (in filly n.) + -ock suffix, or represent (with Northern pronunciation) an Old English *fylece weak feminine, corresponding to Old High German fulihha < Old Germanic *fulikôn- , < *ful- , fol- : see foal n.
Obsolete.
A wanton young girl. Also attributive.
