Etymology: < modern Latin genus name Anisakis (coined in F. Dujardin Hist. Nat. des Helminthes (1845) 220), < Greek ἀνισάκις an unequal number of times, < ἀ(ν)- privative prefix (see an- prefix2) + ἴσος iso- comb. form: see -iasis suffix.
Pathol.
Infection of the gut with parasitic nematode larvae of the family Anisakidae, which results from eating raw or undercooked infected fish or squid and is marked by epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting.
