Biology.
Any of a group of naturally occurring hormones and synthetic compounds that are capable of regulating sexual development in vertebrates, particularly the initiation and maintenance of male sexual characteristics; (also) such compounds as a class.The naturally occurring androgens (including testosterone) are mainly nineteen-carbon steroids and are produced by the adrenal gland, testis, and ovary.
