Etymology: Strictly only a use of Fleming n.1, the continental names of the flamingo (Spanish flamenco , French flamant ) being popularly confused with the homophones = Fleming n.1, and hence rendered by the same word. (In quot. 1591 probably Fleming n.1 was intended.)
