Etymology: < anther n. + -idium comb. form. In sense 2 after scientific Latin antheridium (1828 or earlier).
Botany.
1. Esp. in the terminology of T. Nuttall: the ring of united anthers in the flower of a plant of the genus Asclepias or related genera of the family Apocynaceae. Obsolete.
