Etymology: Origin uncertain. Probably related to flossy n., perhaps showing an arbitrary alteration of that word, or perhaps showing the same variation as shown by floose at floss n.2 Forms and by English regional floosy ‘fluffy, soft’ (compare the range of meanings shown by the related flossy adj.). Compare later floozy adj.Perhaps compare also English regional (Yorkshire) flowzy (noun), in the same sense (1828 or earlier).
colloquial and usually derogatory (originally U.S.).
A sexually promiscuous woman; (sometimes) spec. a prostitute. Also a disparaging term for: a (young) woman; (with possessive) a girlfriend, a mistress.
