Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on an Italian natural item. Etymons: anemo- comb. form, -phily comb. form.
Etymology: < anemo- comb. form + -phily comb. form, after anemophilous adj. and (ultimately) Italian anemofilia (F. Delpino 1870, in Atti della Società Italiana di Scienze Naturali 13 198).Compare German Anemophilie (1877 or earlier), French anémophilie (1878 or earlier).
Botany.
Pollination carried out by pollen dispersed in wind.
