Etymology: Originally < Middle French fol hastif (late 14th cent.) < fol fool adj. + hastif hasty adj. In later use partly re-formed < fool adj. + hasty adj. Compare fool haste n., and also earlier foolhardy adj.Compare Anglo-Norman folhastif (noun) reckless person (late 14th cent.).
Obsolete.
