Etymology: < ancient Greek ἄνευ without, of unknown origin (see note) + καπνός smoke (see capnomancy n.) + -ic suffix + lamp n.¹Ancient Greek ἄνευ may derive from the same Indo-European base as (the first element of) Sanskrit sanutar away, afar, classical Latin sine without, in which case the Greek word would show the substitution of an unaspirated form for an original aspirated form.

Now rare.
