Etymology: < Japanese ankimo (1975 or earlier) < an- (in ankō monkfish, anglerfish (17th cent.), of uncertain origin) + kimo liver.

In Japanese cookery: the liver of a monkfish, esp. as rubbed with salt and rinsed with sake, formed into a cylinder, steamed, and served cold in slices as an appetizer.
