单词 anmod
释义

anmodadj.

Forms: early Old English anmodd- (Mercian, inflected form), Old English annmod (rare), Old English–early Middle English anmod, early Middle English onmod.
Origin: A word inherited from Germanic.
Etymology: Cognate with or formed similarly to Old Saxon anmōd , anmuod (adjective) determined, intent (compare Middle Low German ēinmōt , noun, ēinmȫdich , adjective), Old High German einmuoti (adjective) determined, intent, unanimous (rare; Middle High German einmuote , einmuot in agreement; compare German einmütig , adjective) < the Germanic base of one adj. + the Germanic base of mood n.1 Compare classical Latin ūnanimus , ūnanimis sharing a single attitude or purpose, acting in accord (see unanime adj.).Somewhat wider currency in Germanic may be implied by the wider attestation of adverbs and suffixed adjectives, if these are derived from unattested cognates of this adjective in the individual languages; compare Old Dutch ēnmuodig , adjective (Middle Dutch eenmoedich , Dutch eenmoedig ; compare -y suffix1 and moody adj.) and Old Icelandic einmóðliga, adverb (in a late source). In Old English, ānmōd and its derivatives frequently translate classical Latin ūnanimus, ūnanimis and its derivatives; this is similarly the case in other older Germanic languages.
Obsolete.
Of one mind, unanimous.
