1. Infection or inflammation of the foot in livestock (or, rarely, other animals), typically resulting in lameness; spec. (a) a contagious disease caused by the Gram-negative anaerobic bacterium Dichelobacter nodosus, mainly affecting sheep; (b) (more fully bovine footrot) a disease of cattle caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum and other anaerobic bacteria.
