单词 fon
释义

fonn.1adj.1

Forms: Middle English ffonne, Middle English fone, Middle English fonn, Middle English fonne, Middle English–1500s fon.
Origin: Of unknown origin.
Etymology: Of unknown origin. Compare fond adj. and fon v. Compare also later fun n.Attempts have sometimes been made to connect this noun with Old Swedish fane (Swedish fåne), Old Danish faane, all in the sense ‘fool’, and modern Icelandic fáni swaggerer, vain person. However, this poses phonological problems, as the history of the English words shows no trace of a long vowel, and the northern Middle English forms have o, and not the a which in that dialect normally represents early Scandinavian ā.
Obsolete.
