Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: free quarter n.
Etymology: < free quarter n. Compare slightly earlier free quartering n., and also free-quarterer n.
1. intransitive. To impose oneself on or upon a householder as being entitled to free board and lodging; to live at free quarter. Obsolete.Also (occasionally) in prepositional passive.
