Etymology: < annihilation n. + -ism suffix. Compare earlier annihilationist n.With sense 2 compare Pali ucchedadiṭṭhi , literally ‘annihilation theory’ and ucchedavāda (adjective) that professes annihilation; with this sense compare earlier annihilationist n. 1b.
1. Theology. The doctrine of the total annihilation (annihilation n. 2b), soul as well as body, of unrepentant sinners after death. Cf. Conditionalism n.
