Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin annotāre.
Etymology: Probably < classical Latin annotāre annotate v. Compare connote v., denote v., and later annotate v.Compare Middle French, French annoter to make an inventory of goods seized by judicial authority (1418), to notice (1552), to mention (1570 as adnoter), to accompany (a text) with written remarks (1693), and also Catalan anotar (14th cent.), Spanish anotar (1585), Italian annotare (a1321).
