Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the first syllable, e.g. Frankenfood Brit. /ˈfraŋkᵻnfuːd/, U.S. /ˈfræŋkənˌfud/.
Forms: also with lower-case initial.
Origin: Formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymon: Frankenstein n.

colloquial (chiefly depreciative).
