单词 fuji
释义

fujin.

Brit. /ˈfuːdʒi/, U.S. /ˈfudʒi/, West African English /ˈfudʒi/
Forms: also with capital initial.
Origin: Of uncertain origin.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. The music is referred to in Yoruba as fújì (more fully fújì gabé fuji garbage). It is unclear whether the Yoruba word pre-dates the creation of the musical style, and also whether it is of native origin or < English, ultimately < the name of Mount Fuji in Japan. Compare:1991 G. Ewens Africa O-Ye! v. 106 Chief (Dr) Alhadji Sikuru Ayinde Barrister is credited with ‘inventing’ the system. ‘If you know the meaning of fuji you know it's love. I inherited that word fuji from Fuji mountain in Japan, the mountain of love... When I created fuji music in the year 1965, I know I wanted to sing something about love.’ Dr Barrister has also stated that the name was chosen because it consisted of four easily pronounceable letters. If the Yoruba word is of native origin, there may be a connection with Hausa hújì (also in form fújì ) a hole pierced for inserting an ornament, since one of the instruments used is an ornamental beaded sekere. Compare juju n.3
A style of music originating among the Yoruba people of Nigeria, characterized by very lengthy, often polyrhythmic pieces dominated by percussion and frequently incorporating Islamic chants. Cf. juju n.3
