Etymology: < scientific Latin Fulgora, genus name ( Linnaeus Syst. Nat. (ed. 12, 1767) I. 703; < classical Latin Fulgora , the name of the Roman goddess of lightning < fulgur lightning: see fulgur n.) + -id suffix3, after Fulgoridae, family name (1837 or earlier).

A true bug of the hemipterous family Fulgoridae, which comprises many brightly coloured tropical forms that include the lantern flies.
