Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin fūlīgin-, fūlīgō.
Etymology: < classical Latin fūlīgin-, fūlīgō soot, perhaps < the same Indo-European base as Lithuanian dūlis mist, vapour + classical Latin -gō, suffix forming nouns.In plural form fuligines after the Latin plural form. N.E.D. (1898) gives the pronunciation as (fiuləi·go) /fjuːˈlaɪɡəʊ/.
