Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French frugivore.
Etymology: < French frugivore, adjective and noun (1755 or earlier) < classical Latin frūgi- , frūx fruit (see frugal adj.) + -vore -ivore comb. form. Compare earlier frugivorous adj.
An animal whose diet consists mainly of fruit. Also occasionally: a person who tends to eat a lot of fruit.
