1880 St. Louis (Missouri) Globe-Democrat 4 Dec. 11/5 A committee of the Elgin (Illinois) Board of Trade has been investigating adulterations of butter and cheese at Chicago, and are reported to have discovered that ‘anti-huff’ is largely used there in the manufacture of cheese.
1891 3rd Biennial Rep. Minnesota State Dairy & Food Commissioner in Executive Doc. State of Minnesota II. 257 In the manufacture of skim cheese, or as it is sometimes denominated, ‘anti-huff cheese,’ it is a common practice, in order to preserve them and especially to prevent them from puffing out or ‘huffing’.
