Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin aqua.
Etymology: < classical Latin aqua water (see aqua n.1).Classical Latin aqua is also attested as the first element in various collocations derived from Latin: see aqua n.1 In Latin the regular combining form of aqua is aqui- (see aquiform adj.).
Latin aqua ‘water’ used as a combining form or quasi-adj., esp. in expressions referring to aquatic entertainment; aquacade n. U.S. an elaborate display of aquatic events and turns.
