Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin fungites.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin fungites (1648 or earlier) < classical Latin fungus fungus n. + -ītēs -ite suffix1.Compare the following examples of the Latin word in English context:1677 R. Now historical and rare.
