Etymology: < post-classical Latin fungositas (1536 or earlier) < classical Latin fungōsus fungose adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare earlier fungous adj.Compare Middle French fungosité, French fongosité (1561).
1. Spongy material; spongy condition, sponginess. Cf. fungous adj. 1c. Obsolete. rare.
