Etymology: < Old French garguillon ‘the pipe or throat-pipe, whereby meat passeth into the stomach or craw of birds’ (Cotgrave), apparently not recorded in the technical sense to which it is confined in English; < gargouille throat. Compare medieval Latin gargaliōn-em.
Obsolete. rare.
The gullet or œsophagus of a deer. The explanation in quot. 1696 is evidently a mere guess.
